It is my pleasure to introduce my dear friend and mentor. He impacts me in the smallest ways, causing profound and lasting effect on my Artist Soul. Whether a chat over coffee or debate over a work in progress painting.
Richard Newton
Artist Educator

Richard Newton has enjoyed a distinguished career as a leading Art Educator in Victoria, Australia and is now retired from the ‘Art studio/room’ and is concentrating on his own art work. His original works have been exhibited and sold at the popular Red Hill and Camberwell Art Shows as well as many other Shows.
Influences.
Richard and his family have had a long association with Thailand and he has a innate love of the people, their art, architecture and culture. He has conducted many tours from both to south of Thailand for his art students as well as other schools and adult groups.
In Richard’s work one can see the link to Thailand through his use of hand made gold and silver leaf and the reoccurring Thai landscape.
Walking has become a daily pleasure for Richard and he is building a collection of images from his local beach.
Mediums
He regularly works with bitumen and a range of acrylic and oil colours in an expressive use of line. Richard has developed a new style of work which involves enlarging his photographs onto canvas and painting over them. This work has been of interest in Thailand as well s locally.
Expression

One of Richards’ passions is to work with a client to create a commissioned work for a specific place. This is a challenging way for him to incorporate his own creativity with the clients wishes for a new art work.
Richard has also worked as a mentor to many local Artists and he loves this interaction in a shared creative process.
‘Painting for me is a way of expressing the essence of line and movement whether in a nude, landscape or abstraction’
